Sonographer Jobs
Recruitment Information for South African sonographers
In Australia, due to ultrasound being a reasonably low cost and accessible non-invasive diagnostic tool, it has been keenly taken on by the medical industry. Some of the first ultrasound units were developed by Australian scientists and we have a prosperous ultrasound heritage. Australia is in desperate shortage of skilled medical sonographers due to this high demand of diagnostic ultrasound services.
Ultrasound graduates from South Africa, and all other countries, need to apply to the Australian Institute of Radiography for eligibility in the form of a Certificate of Recognition in Ultrasound. This is due to the Australian Sonographer Accreditation Registry only immediately accepting ultrasound qualifications that were obtained in Australia.
South African trained sonographers need to register with the Australian Sonographer Accreditation Registry before continuing your career in Australia.
The good news is that, for a single fee, you can apply for an assessment of both ultrasound and radiography credentials at the same time by the Australian Institute of Radiography and no examinations need to be written.
An information pack, available for download at the link below, outlines the accreditation process and has basic information about costs and visas. The information pack will also be sent to your email address so that you can peruse it at your leisure.
